Its bewitching beauty and unique atmosphere make Chester one of Britain’s most popular places for an unforgettable short break. But what makes it so special?
The ancient city is a truly breathtaking experience. Each chapter of Chester’s history is etched into the very fabric of the city. You are walking where Roman legions marched to war, Viking raiders wreaked havoc and Norman invaders conquered Anglo Saxons.
Chester has the UK’s most complete city walls, the oldest racecourse and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus a 1000 year old Cathedral with Europe’s finest example of medieval carvings – and of course the one and only 700 year old Rows galleries where shopping is a double delight.
You’ll find stores galore offering the hottest fashion in Chester all set against a background of unique treasures of antiquity and a vibrant cafe culture where outdoor dining and people watching go hand in hand.
Make time too for Chester Zoo, the most visited UK attraction outside London and home to 35,000 animals from 500 different species in acres of glorious gardens
Ware has many listed, timber framed buildings including the remains of a friary dating back to the thirteenth century.
Ware is also known for the Great Bed of Ware, which was mentioned by Shakespeare. It is in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but from 2012-2013 it was loaned to the museum in Ware.
Ware is mentioned in The Canterbury Tales. Some of the buildings along the High Street date back to the 14th century. Ware used to have many coaching inns and stables. Many of its existing passageways lead to former maltings.
Shrewsbury is the capital of the county of Shropshire, in western England. It sits inside a loop of the River Severn and its Tudor centre is lined with half-timbered houses. The medieval, red-brick Shrewsbury Castle houses the Shropshire Regimental Museum, where military artefacts including uniforms and weaponry can be seen. St Chad’s Church is defined by its unique circular nave and St Mary’s Church has elaborate stained-glass windows.
The public square includes a water fountain, an interactive art commission and atmospheric lighting, providing a fun and interactive space for the public to enjoy while trees, soft landscaping and a lawned area create a relaxing informal space.
The square has been designed to link and blend Southwater into the Town Park, creating fantastic views from adjacent restaurants across the lawn and lake enabling a variety of events and activities.
The Southwater development delivers a night time economy in Telford town centre and features a range of restaurants, bars and other leisure facilities.
